Phenomenal Leader President Hermie Esguerra – President’s Diary for June 15, 2023

My dear fellow Manila Rotarians,

If you will recall, I participated in the District Relief Operations and Disaster Response Zoom meeting on May 23 headed by DG Joyce Ambray. During the meeting, we discussed the generous donation of 350 wheelchairs from D7670, USA, through the efforts of PDG Bill Biddle, PP Joanne Biddle, PDG Ken Shull, and PP Sandie Jones. It is worth mentioning that the arrangements for this donation were initiated back in October 2021 when I was still serving as President-elect, reflecting our commitment to long-term planning and community service.

Following up on this initiative, we have commenced the distribution of wheelchairs to various Rotary clubs within District 3810, as well as directly to individuals in need of mobility assistance.

Joint Mobility Project of District 3810 and District 7670, USA

The Mobility Project, which aims to provide mobility assistance to individuals in need, specifically through the distribution of wheelchairs, has been ongoing for 13 years.

The term “mobility” originates from the Latin word “mobilitas,” signifying activity and the ability to move freely.

Coincidentally, the distribution of wheelchairs took place on the occasion of the 125th Independence of the Philippines, which added a special significance to the initiative. This timing served as a providential opportunity to contribute to the well-being of individuals in need of mobility assistance, enhancing their quality of life by enabling them to move around more easily and independently.

Deep within the heart of this profound mission, the manufacturers of these wheelchairs envisioned commercials and sought to craft durable and competitive products. Little did they know that the bridge connecting them to the end-users, the less fortunate recipients, would be forged by the unwavering dedication and compassionate souls of the Rotarians. It is through the Rotarians’ indomitable hearts and tireless service to the less fortunate that these manufacturers find their purpose fulfilled. It is through this partnership that not only are the manufacturers able to reach their market and promote their products, but Economic and Community Development also flourishes, resonating with the transformative power of service.

The Joint Mobility Project stands as a testament to the human spirit, reminding us that united hearts can move mountains, empower lives, and unlock the truest form of liberation. Together, we embrace the vision of a world where no one is held captive by circumstances, where freedom of movement becomes the birthright of all.
