Newly-installed RI District 3810 Governor Joyce Michelle Socorro Loyola Ambray is an amazing woman who combines beauty and brains. Her achievements over the yearshave earned her awards, too numerous to mention here.
Coming from a well-to-do family in San Pablo, Laguna, Joyce developed the seeds of charity and familial love from her parents, Damaso , a banker and real estate developer, and her mother, Mary Ann, daughter of the esteemed Congressman Sergio Loyola.
Joyce was a consistent awardee during her elementary and high school days. She opted to take up dentistry at the Centro Escolar University (CEU), after which she pursued post-graduate studies at the New York University, University of Kentucky, Roseman University, Thammasat University and the Sir Henry Reliance Hospital in Mumbai, India.
Her beauty was recognized during her college days, when she was crowned Miss Dentistry. Later she was adjudged Mutyang Yamao Lake of San Pablo City.
What is equally remarkable about Joyce is her spirit of public service, something which runs in her family. Aside from her maternal grandfather, her paternal grandfather was a philanthropist, the donor of a school and a chapel and the founder of pre-war clubs in Laguna.
Her involvement in Rotary therefore was a foregone conclusion.
Joyce joined Rotary in 2006, motivated by her love for humanitarian work. She served in various capacities at the District level , maximized her knowledge and resources to help in the administration of previous District Governors .
In Rotary Year 2013-2014, she initiated award-winning flagship community projects, such as the Mobile-E Learning, a global project serving several schools in Manila, helping students improve comprehensive and math skills through information technology. In 2016, she was a Charter Member of RC of Manila 101.
Today, as District Governor of RI District 3810, on her 17thyear as a Rotarian, Joyce wants her term to be phenomenal, an extraordinary experience for clubs by promoting diversity, equity and inclusion, in line with the thrusts oi RI President Jennifer Jones, the first female International President in Rotary history.
Joyce aims to promote harmonious relationships among Rotarians, to make them feel they truly belong to RI District 3810, a family which is united and compassionate.
This is a crucial step forward to encourage clubs to be vibrant towards goals of strengthening relationships, improving lives, promoting peace and defeating diseases.
A multi- awarded, civic-minded person, Joyce is not only an outstanding Rotarian but also a renowned dentist , who has received honors in her field for her dedication and for her active promotion of oral health education.
Despite all her accomplishments in her career and as a Rotarian, Joyce is proudest for being the mother of her son, Elijah Jonah, currently studying at UP Manila, and being a supportive partner of Herminio S. Esguerra, a trail-blazing entrepreneur , sport enthusiast, and philanthropist, who will preside over Rotary Club of Manila this year.
Together , they share the love for farming and raising animals . traveling, exercising, watching boxing bouts, and learning from the Bible.
Joyce Ambray is indeed an amazing civic leader, driven to take RI District 3810 this year to a new level of service in the spirit of Rotary Year’s theme: “Imagine Rotary”!
Kudos!
